Daedalus growled at his own inability to assist the battered Shiryu, then his eyes widened slightly at the end of Vithzerai's speech.
'More deserving race'? What's he talking about? He pondered.
"Is he here to make way for another species...?" He muttered under his breath.
He scowled, considering the possiblity. He didn't like what his brain had concocted with the concept...
"I don't like this..." He muttered.

Vithzerai maintained an even composure the entire time as he beatdown Shiryu. He jumped into the air coming down upon Shiryu with his Darkfire Kick forcing Shiryu deep into the ground. As Shiryu slowly crawled out of the hole he pulled him out and held him in the air looking right into his eyes.
[glow=gray,4,300]It is my job to ensure that the life energy of this planet is used in the most efficient way possible. I have finally been released so that I may wipe them out to allow a better usage of that energy. And you...[/glow]
Vithzerai lifted Shiryu farther into the the air with his hand wrapped around Shiryu's neck.
Shiryu merely spit in his face and shot a warning to him. “You have no sway over how the life energies of the world flow. They work on their own, in mysterious ways no being can imagine nor control. You will see the folly of your ways in due time, maybe not by my hands but the day shall certainly come when you will fall.”

Vithzerai squeezed his hand around Shiryu’s neck and snapped it. He let Shiryu drop to the ground as a floppy corpse. He just watched as the life of Shiryu dissipated before him.
[glow=gray,4,300]Now that’s one piece of trash guarding this pathetic race out of the way. Such a shame too his race held a high value a thousand years ago. If only he had seen his true purpose he may have been able to do his job properly. Too bad this earth corrupts the minds of those I give power to. His entire race went soft towards the end but were one of my best creations nonetheless.[/b][/glow]

Mercurio watched in horror as Shiryu was destroyed by Vithzerai. She couldn’t believe what was left before her to see, it was impossible in her mind. She began to walk towards the barrier in a daze trying to get to Shiryu in an effort to prove this was all some big joke he had setup.
“There’s no way… it just can’t be… he can’t break a promise…”
What would I do without him beside me? He’s the one person that can truly comfort me to the soul. He can’t be gone, it just can’t be.
Tears streamed down her cheeks as she approached the boundary of Yomi No Kuni Manten. She wanted to desperately get inside but dared not to due to the lethal waters she would have to cross.

"Whoa there!" Daedalus barked, hauling Mercruio back from YnKM's boundary.
He held her back, muttering as he glared at Vithzerai,
"I'm sorry, lass, but... there's nothing we can do for him now... he's... gone..."
His glare deepend, thinking,
Gods... this is what I did to Shive...?! I DO deserve to go to Hell...
He put a reassuring hand on Mercurio's shoulder, shaking his head as he tried to put himself slightly between her and Vithzerai.
"We can mourn later... we'll have to get out of here now, though, in case he decides to drop that field..."

Vithzerai waved a hand at Shiryu's body causing the island to seep dark cloud-like energy over him. Shiryu's body was lifted into the air and hovered there for a while. Slowly his body began to dissipate into light energy. Eventually his body vanished and small orbs of light flowed around the area with no direction or purpose.
A vortex opened in the ground drawing the orbs within it. Each and every one of them was swallowed up into the small void. Once finished the vortex vanished leaving no trace of Shiryu having existed.
[glow=gray,4,300]Now you two shall go inform others that this fate shall soon befall all who take life for granted. Lest they wind up like this child of life.[/glow]
He shimmered in a group of shadows and dissipated into that of Yomi No Kuni Manten itself. It slowly faded allowing the earth to return to its natural form.
Mercurio broke free from Daedalus's arms and ran to the spot Shiryu had vanished in. She franctically searched for a hidden passage or a hole he had been buried in.
No... no... no no no! He can't have been killed. He has to be around here somewhere. Why can't I find him?
Her search picked up the pace the more she panicked at the loss of Shiryu. Yet she couldn't find a trace of his body or where he had gone. She even looked for his biorhythm but found nothing even resembling his uniqueness as a reaper.
"Why... why did you break your promise to me? We were supposed to be with each other forever and now... you're gone, taken from me", she moaned/mumbled.
She dropped to her knees and propped herself up with her hands on them. She was sobbing, to the point of labored breathing. She had suddenly been stripped of another very important person in her life, this time though a piece of her heart had been broken like never before.

Daedalus sighed, saddened at the ordeal he was witnessing. But it wasn't at Shiryu's loss directly that steadily tore at him, no... it was the fact he'd inflicted such sorrow so many times before, with no regret behind it... he'd done it to his own family, even. He slowly clutched at his mane, eyes beginning to glaze over the more he thought about it.
... how... could I do such things...?! Such HORRIBLE THINGS... to people I didn't even know.... people who'd never crossed me... and to my own FAMILY, no less!
His clawed hands began to shake, and the longer he watched Mercurio break down, the more he wanted to join her in doing so... it was true his evil intentions were gone, but the memories were still very real. His eyes began to water over, a strange sight to see compared to the monstrous humanoid's appearance, and he abruptly collapsed to his knees and slammed a fist into the ground.
"So many innocent lives taken... to never have been lived... and so many lives ruined because of it... why... WHY DID I DO IT?! I HAD NO RIGHT!!"
His sorrowful growls descended into despairing sobs, his forehead pressed into the dirt as the souls around him quietly wailed in their own mournings.
"I... I'm so sorry... all of you... mother... father... ... brother... ... I'm so.... sorry..." He silently choked.

Mercurio bowed her head to the ground as the tears continued to flow. She desperately clutched at the dirt beneath her hoping that she could somehow bring Shiryu back. In all her life she had never wished for something so hard.
A hand touched her face just then. It slowly lifted her chin up until she was looking eye to eye with this entity. Her eyes shot wide open as she saw Shiryu before her, though he was immaterial.
"Mercurio please do not despair I am not gone from all existence. He may be able to steal my body but he can never take my spirit. Please do not dwell on me forever for it will invite devastation to befall you. Just have peace knowing that I will always watch over you and I will always keep my promise to be at your side no matter what. Please leave now before things get worse, I cannot stay any longer lest I lose my individuality. We shall meet again trust me and next time we will be able to spend the rest of our lives together no matter what", he consoled her.
His form slowly vanished from sight leaving a stunned and speechless Mercurio sitting there in the crater. The tears still flowed but she had an ounce of happiness to them now as she had the comfort of knowing he was around and that she had gotten the chance to speek with him before he had to truly leave.

Daedalus had never seemingly noticed Shiryu's temporary return in his broken state, but his sobs had quieted down considerably. Several minutes later, he had actually managed to pull his face from the dirt, wiped feebly at his snout, and produced his skullish helm, snapping it into place around his head. He glanced in Mercurio's direction with a pang of pity, but said nothing. He just nodded, then silently paced off away from the crater, face and mind blank under his metallic mask, hiding his emotions from the world... but despite all this, his soul was still in unbearable agony at his recent revelation.

Mercurio didn't even notice Daedalus as he left but stayed behind praying for Shiryu. She remained the entire night not wanting to go home without him. As morning broke she was curled up in a ball fast asleep until the sun lit up where she lay. As she sat up she stopped and watched the sun rise higher into the air giving a warming presence. She sighed and slowly lifted into the air and set out for home where and eery silence would exist.
