Volk was relaxing in a tree he began frequenting since having become a Darkwood some time ago. He finally had a place he could belong without being prosecuted for a ridiculous reason and sentenced to a life imprisonment. Grosspoliner was resting lower on the branch with Volk though keeping his tongue in check as Volk wasn't in a particularly good mood.
That bastard of a father had to actually send her of all people after me. My only question is if she will follow those orders through or not. Crap I hate these situations, and he knows that I can't attack her. Either way this is a losing situation for me. not to mention he probably has a scout trailing her from afar.
He went on with his thoughts as he drifted into a half sleep type of meditation while sorting his thoughts out into some form of order.
I can at least say that the Darkwood have it a little bit easier than the Nightpeak, pack policy wise. At least the Darkwoods aren't driven to action of fake prophecies.
His lip curled at the thought of what his own father had done to him. All that and just for the packleader position after the former had died.

The Packleader's niece soon skidded into view, looking about nervously, biting her lip as she did so. Her eyes swept over the autumn foliage, attempting to find the certain furry splotch of dark-blue she needed to talk with so badly at the moment. Cupping her hands to her mouth, she yelled,
"Heeey!! Volk?! You here? I need to talk with you! It's important!"
She grumbled, not getting a response, then started to move through the forest again, trying to find the new initiate to the Darkwood pack.
I wonder how he'll react to this info... She thought.

Volk shifted his weight and hung upside down from the branch as Lora was moving around.
"Hey Lora. What's up", he said in a monotone. He wasn't really in the mood to talk but since it was Lora he had a feeling it really would have an impact on him so he decided to listen for now.
"What kind of thing would we be talking about? It's not a pop quiz follow up to the trials is it", he grumbled.
I really hope this day does not get any worse...

She yelped at his sudden arrival, then glanced off to the side, rubbing her head sheepishly.
"Uhh... no. However, there is someone who wants to see you..."
Her eyes were overshadowed, and she muttered,
"It's Kris. I'm not sure if she's telling the truth or not, but it's damned believeable... she says she wants to see you desperately. She literally broke down into tears in front of me, saying how she didn't want to be in Nightpeak anymore... how she wants to be with you."
She sighed, folding her arms, leaning against the tree.
"She seemed to be telling the truth... I mean, she was an emotional wreck when we discussed the subject. So... I had no alternaitve but to give in to her pleadings. You're to meet her at the Abandoned District two nights from now."
She glanced up at him, her face surprisingly cold.
"Don't worry about it being a trap... I'll have reinforcements in the area; ones well-equipped for taking on any unwanted visitors... or if Kris decides to lay an ambush. Of course, if she's speaking the truth, then they'll be there to make sure no one interrupts. Got it?"
She suddenly gave a devilish, toothy smirk.
"Geez, I sound like O'Malley..." She grumbled.

"I wouldn't be surprised if she wanted to leave. The Nightpeak took a terrible turn for the worse a few decades ago. I was a major part of this exchange of power. My life was nearly forfeited for the position of packleader. Since that time the pack's priorities fell into disarray. Those born with unnatural abilities or colorations like myself were scorned in the pack", he explained. "It is for these reasons the pack needs to be rebuilt from the ground up but none have the power to do so at this time and with the current packleader."
"I'm not worried about it being a trap that much. Most Nightpeak won't even approach her or myself let alone fight us. It's if she has a secret tail that reports directly back to the pack leader that's the issue. If it's not low key then there's less chance of this being pulled off. Plus the tail can't be killed either because they make regular reports on this type of thing", he mused.
"So Abandoned District in two nights. You're absolutely sure she spoke with her heart? If so she's gonna need somewhere safe to stay those two nights", he said.

Lora jabbed a reproving finger in Volk's face, barking,
"Berg Darkwood, don't you DARE question a woman's feelings, OR a woman's empathy for feelings! I know she spoke with her heart! I could see it in her tears!"
She knew she was getting ahead of herself now, but she didn't care. She was enjoying herself a bit too much. She sighed, running a hand through her hair, before adding,
"As for a possible spy, well... again, we could deal with it easily, but you're right about the constant checking. Gaah... I REALLY don't wanna start a war between the packs... ... what's worse is, if we do, I know O'Malley will step in... and that would mean the end of the Nightpeak pack..."
Her shoulders sagged, now in a small bout of despair.
"What's worse is, if this is all true... then you're right, Kris will need to find somewhere safe to stay... but if she has an entire pack after her, that'll be a hard thing to do. I fear for her safety now..."
She shook her head, clutching her arms.
"I... I don't know what to do... I feel bad for doubting her now..."

"I'm sorry Lora but with what's been done to the pack the line of people you trust and those you can't got skewered and almost tossed out the window. If you trust her, I'll listen to you but just so long as we're clear that I just want this matter cleared up quickly", he said. "Lingering out in the open invites problems. That would be a big problem if she really is tailed."
Dammit just when I start to get settled I'm almost being uprooted again. Today is definitely not my day.
"Master we could use an abandoned building in the area for cover. Plus it would make it easier to hide from any Nightpeak that may follow her.
Good point but we still need to be out a little more so that we can scramble should the need arise.
"Ok Lora I have no idea what I'll be doin so you get to lead me on this. Just keep in mind this is the first time we've seen each other in two decades", he informed. "So any ideas on how we can make this go a little more smoothly? After all I still have no idea how we would deal with a scout that has to be allowed to live."

Lora's eyes took on a hard, cold look as she glanced up, and muttered,
"Well... we can keep him alive, but who's to say we have to keep him comfortable...? I say we let our 'watchmen' catch him and force him to lie to his superiors... there's nothing the Nightpeak can do to their pack members that the residents of Tenkyanon can't do three times worse... they can get plenty of silver in a short time, and can find anyone, anywhere, so long as they know what to look for... there is no escape from them."
She paused, then her eyes widened and she shook violently, clutching at her arms.
Dear god... I DO sound like O'Malley... m-more than I'd like to... She thought, horrified.
She forced herself to stop, and, while trying to get a hold of herself, whispered,
"Well... we can always have you two meet there... then transport you to Tenkyanon, where I know a scout couldn't follow... after all, it's in space. How about that? If they can't find their targets, they can't report where either of you are."

"Oh hey you alright? Looks like you just got stabbed with a bit of silver for a second there", he asks concernedly. "Your idea is good but we'd still have to worry about the scent and all that. Not to mention Kris really isn't the type to deal with technology that well."
Can’t believe that I still get nervous after all the crap I’ve been through. Just one more ridiculous part that makes up me I guess.
He dropped down from the branch and stood with Lora finally as the blood was slightly rushing to his head.

She gave a low, irritated growl, muttering,
"I'm fine. Other than that idea, I have nothing else. ... well... nothing that wouldn't involve the eradication of the Nightpeak pa-"
She paused, turning white, then shook her head wildly, screaming,
"I DIDN'T MEAN THAT!! AUGH!! ... I-I'm sorry..."
What the hell is wrong with me...?! She thought, staring at her shaking hands.
She put a hand to her head, finishing shakily,
"But... yeah... well, I guess I could get O'Malley to get some kind of scent-neutralizing compound... have him lay the area down with it. How's that?"

"Alright and we'll have to sedate her too. Who knows how she'll react to him and his tech. Do that and all should be fine so long as she believes she's in a natural environment", he said. "Thanks for helping her Lora. She's a train wreck when she doesn't have anyone to help her. I truly appreciate it."
He leaned on the tree and relaxed a bit letting his blood balance out from his previous position.
Why did he have to use her of all people. Dammit I'm going to kill him for what he's done to me and her!

Lora nodded somewhat breathlessly at that, still a bit shocked at the way she was acting today.
"Yeah... I think that'll work...! And no problem, Volk... it's my duty to help fellow Pack members such as yourself."
She smiled at him, glad she could make a difference for at least someone within her pack. She managed to get a hold on herself at last, and finished,
"Well, if this is gonna work, I'm going to need to contact O'Malley first of all... he'll need quite a bit of convincing to spare some of his troops like this. But... I'm sure he'll submit to my pleas."
She smirked at that last part, then turned her back on Volk and started to walk off, waving a hand up as she went.
"Two nights! Abandoned district! Don't forget!"
Several seconds later she was already gone from view, leaving Volk to his thoughts.

Volk slumped down the tree. He was really doing this, but how would his father and the Elders respond to this. Not only had he run from his imprisonment, he also joined another pack and was about to aid in the removal of another Nightpeak.
The days ahead are going to be very trying. That I can be certain of.
He headed off in the opposite direction of Lora and vanished into the forest much like she had. 2 days and 1 night, the countdown had begun.
