A biomechanical Krawl cried out in agony as it was blown to pieces by a cannon shot, courtesy of one Villakroma. Chiggar snarled, then turned seeing another Krawl come at her from behind. It was quickly cut down though.
"Thanks." the Villakroma grunted to her larger companion.
"Any time!" the low, but still discernably child-like voice replied, jumping into the sky before glowing with energy and crashing into yet another Krawl, slaying it with that one strike. Chiggar snarled as she spotted another Krawl, thrusting herself towards it and jamming her cannon into its face.
"Eat flames, bastard!" Chiggar howled, blowing its head off in a single blast. Normally, such a manuever would be suicidal, but Chiggar's... 'unusual' diet had by now converted into a much stronger carapace, now such moves where merely a minor nuisance.
"How're you holding up, Seela?" Chiggar called out.
"Just fine, GRAAAH!" Seela replied, cutting another Krawl in half, panting now that the wave was eliminated.
"Well, that makes... what, about eleven thousand dead Krawl?" Seela asked.
"About that much. I must say, you may be agrivating to be around, but your a damn good team mate..."
"I'm not sure whether to take that as a compliment or an insult..."
"Compliment, definitely..."

A lone figure dropped out of the sky and onto a junk pile, descending on wings not unlike those of the ancient pteradactyl. Its hateful, blue-black eyes took in the scene, the vision of dozens of dissipating Krawl corpses... and in their midst, the two Spectrobes. An almost-expresionless maw twisted slightly at the sight of them, then it abruptly jerked its horned head to the side as several more of the Krawl's method of travel, the strange spike-whip vortexes, suddenly sprang into existence. Its eyes narrowed, and it waved a hand over itself, causing it to dissapear from view. The invisible entity then slid down the side of the junk pile and strode into the battlefield, wishing to get a better look at what these things... and the ones who seemed to have killed so many... were.
This cannot be the Crests' cause... those rifts aren't eminating profane energy... It thought.

"Well, this should be the last wave." Seela commented tensing up.
"Lets not drag it out longer then it needs to be." Chiggar muttered, shimmering red. "You wanna use it?"
"It'll make things faster."
"Alright." Seela then summon an azure glow around her body, and the two jumped into the skies. The two roared out,
[glow=red,2,300]"TRY THIS ON FOR SIZE! BURNING FROST CRASH!"[/glow] The two glowing Spectrobes dropped like stones, their landing caused a minor quake to shudder through the area, before thousands of icicles erupted from the ground, skewering all the Krawl in one brutal swipe. The ice then glowed and erupted into flame, burning away the Krawl to nothing but ashes.
"Awesomeness." Seela commented.
"We actually pulled it off this time..." Chiggar muttered numbly, eye twitching in disbelief.
"Oh c'mon, its not that surprising... is it?"
"Actually it is..."
"Meanie!"

A shimmering dome of transparent energy was apparent for several seconds during the attack, then dissapeared as soon as it had ended. The being within the dome, still cloaked in invisibility, smirked at the attack he'd just witnessed.
Impressive... perhaps I should enlist them in my ranks. However... another test is required. I've only seen them function against one type of enemy... It mused.
With another wave of its unseen hand, another portal opened... though this differed from those of the Krawl's. The shimmering red oval abruptly spat out several odd, floating creatures covered in hazy black cloaks that appeared almost gaseous. The only parts of them that were exposed were their red, elongated ovaloid heads, of which bore two large, teal-blue ovals for eyes upon a chitinous, featureless face. A single skeletal arm poked out of their 'cloaks', ending in small clawed hands with a large index claw. They issued no sound as they glid towards Chiggar and Seela, their large index claws beginning to glow as they did so.
Let's see what you can do against slightly smarter opponents... The winged creature thought.
The cloaked creatures began to circle Seela and Chiggar, before they all abruptly attacked- their glowing claws extended with surprising speed, two of them impaling Seela before they retracted again, floating back. The two attacking Chiggar, however, issued frustrated hisses as their claws only went a fraction of the way into Chiggar's carapace before withdrawing.

Seela hissed angrily at the new beings.
"The hell? New kinds of Krawl?" the Flash spectrobe wondered.
"Impossible, we would've seen a property aura by now." Chiggar responded.
"Whatever, lets bring 'em down!" Seela roared, charging at the two creatures that attacked her, blades held in a position to stab the monsters.
However, she then jumped over them, then back flipped over them again just before they turned fully to face her again, and slashed the two with their backs turned twice each, each blade going straight through their bodies.
Chiggar, meanwhile, slowly advanced on one of the creatures, firing shots that would just barely miss, but would be close enough to cause the to shift out of the way to avoid damage. Once she got close enough, she fired another shot that went under the wispy creature, the force of the nearby explsion throwing it towards Chiggar, who reared up and held a foot out for it too hit, before she fell down again and crushed it underneath her body.
The last creature backed away from Chiggar, who flashed her red aura around her right leg twice, then turned and went left, firing shots that were easily avoided by the creature. Again, though, these were meant only to corral it, and when Chiggar pulsed her aura over her back, the last creature never knew what hit it as Seela dropped from behind the creature, quatering it with two swift strokes.
"Smarter then Krawl... but still not that bright..." Chiggar mused, then turned to Seela. "You ok?"
"A few scratches don't bother me that much," Seela replied. "Although I do wonder where those things came from, and what they were..."

The invisible entity's eyes widened slightly, musing,
Interesting... their odd energy tore right through the Mephisto's cloaks... ... very interesting... I suppose I shall test their true mettle now...
It waved an unseen hand once more, and another crimson portal opened before it. What appeared to be a bolt of lightning lanced out of it, twisting and turning abruptly before striking the top of a nearby junkpile, whereupon it took physical form- that of a hulking reptillian monster with dark-red flesh covered by sections of bony armor, crackling with an aura of electricity. It had massive claws on its hands, accompanied by a rather large cranial horn. The beast was blind, having no eyes as it slowly swept its head about before seeming to focus on Chiggar and Seela. It then issued a bellowing roar before reverting to its lightning form again, dashing about at blinding speed, appearing once more before Chiggar as it smashed a clawed hand into the Villakroma's face, sending the beetle spinning away, traces of static lingering about her mug.
The thing then 'bolted' (for lack of a better term) at Seela, only to re-appear a few dozen feet away, issuing a low growl as it anticipated a counter-attack... of which it would deal with in its own way.

The strange new creature clearly overlooked the fact that such minor attacks were far from sufficient to put Chiggar down for good, and the beast was assaulted from behind by a stream of fire as Chiggar closed in after righting herself. The beast howled as the flames charred its body, unknowing that Seela had winged into the air.
Chiggar backed off just as she saw Seela diving, four of her six paws aimed to stomp the beast down. The Flash Spectrobe crashed into the demonic creature, causing its head to snap down. The Rydrake (OOC: Finally decided to use that name...) bounced off of the hellish beast and landed next to Chiggar, both glowing their specific properties...

The new beast slowly staggered to its feet, all lightning surrounding its form now gone... at first. It threw its head back and released a hellish howl, its body erupting into an aura of red electricity before it 'bolted' again, landing next to Seela. A bolt of lightning crashed down and surged into its horn as it brough its two claws apart, then launched a powerful blast of the crimson electricity at the Rydrake, frying her exterior and slamming her into Chiggar, whereupon both were electrocuted rather painfully, even for the heavily-armored Villakroma. The thing snarled, then zipped about in its lightning form, twice as fast as it had before, then finally appeared below Chiggar. It lashed its head upwards, forcing the horn into Chiggar's exoskeleton with apparent difficulty (and most likely a very chipped horn), then in a display of strength, actually lifted the Spectrobe, surging more lightning through its horn and into the pain-wracked beetle before shoving it off, sending Chiggar skidding.
It gave one last snarl before it charged at the two once more... only to dissipate in the burst of the red electricity, gone forever. The cloaked figure's maw twisted into a sickening grin, and it thought,
Yes... they could prove to be valuble allies... perhaps I should show myself now...
The figure took to the air and landed on a nearby junk pile, dispelling the cloaking effect it had wrought. It was revealed to be a 9-foot tall gargoyle of sorts, a silver-grey in color, and looking very emaciated, for its ribs were nigh exposed, yet it had a decent amount of muscle otherwise. Pteradactyl-like wings were positione don the back of each clawed forearm, and atop the neck was a draconic, skullish head (the skin was pulled rather tightly across it) with a pair of curling horns jutting out of its back. It then clapped, exclaiming,
"Well done! I must thank and applaud you for doing my job for me! I'd been assigned by my superiors to take those demons out, as they were escapees."
The sunlight itself seemed to be averted from this creature, as the air around seemed significantly darker. The gargoyle made a sweeping bow, asking,
"Might I ask the names of my two allies?"

Chiggar grumbled to herself as she shook off the remainder of the lighting. She then turned to the gargoyle figure and huffed.
"Hold up, who said anything about us being allies? We were just acting in self defense against creatures that attacked us first." Chiggar rumbled. "'The enemy of my enemy is my friend' does NOT apply here."
Seela also rose and shook herself off, scowling, "Besides, how can we trust you? If you were really sent to kill those things, why didn't you jump in at the first opportunity?"

The gargoyle made a surprised face and smacked himself in the forehead, replying,
"Ahh! My apologies, for I did not phrase that correctly. As for why I did not jump in, I got here just as you delivered the slaying blow! I had assumed you killed the Mephisto's because of their lingering energy signals, and I watched you kill that Blitz just as I arrived."
He sighed, glancing to the sky.
"Had I gotten here earlier, I would've removed them without a doubt, and rid yourselves of that nuisance. I do humbly hope you'll forgive me."
He looked back down at them, then made a wide, sweeping gesture with his arm.
"I suppose I shall introduce myself! My name is Phalanx, ex-arch-demon! Say, you haven't happened to have seen six triangular gems each with an odd, white symbol them lately, have you? That's the other reason I've come here... I've been ordered to retreive six potent artifacts known as the Demon Crests."

Chiggar scowled again, lumbering back.
"We need to discuss this before we go any further." the Villakroma grunted, her Rydrake ally getting the hint and trotting off after her.
They were still in eye sight of Phalanx, but they kept their voices down to avoid being overheard.
"How do you suggest we go about this?" Seela asked curiously.
"I don't trust him, last I recalled demons are embodiments of darkness. 'Arch' demons must be worse." Chiggar hissed distrustingly.
"But... he said he was an ex... wouldn't that mean he turned to light?"
"Once of darkness, always of darkness, I say. It's people like him that corrupt actual light like us. Besides, remember what I mentioned about the Demon Crests he was talking about? I know I don't know much of anything about them, but I'm certain they're energies are dark in all ways."
"True... Argh, I don't know."
"Neither of us do, not enough to go off of."
"Maybe... maybe we can stick around him for a while? See how he acts, and then make a decision?"
"He'll keep himself in check if he's truely a dark being still, the information from such an arrangement can be flawed."
"damn..."
The two spectrobes sighed and returned to Phalanx.
"Look, I haven't even heard of these.... 'Demon Crests', let alone seen them. And I do hope you understand when we say we're a little unsure of really trusting you. Demons don't exactly sound like the most trust worthy individuals..." Chiggar answered to Phalanx.
Seela nervously paced around behind Chiggar, expression contorted into one of confusion as she gave Phalanx a few curious glances.

Phalanx chuckled at this, replying,
"Ahh, but that is understandable, for we demons are all grouped together by mortals, no offense. But not all of us are evil, actually. Some of us retain a bit of humanity, or get it back after some time, and I am no exception. While not particularly good, I am by no means evil, and therefore have no negative intent toward anyone. I am simply here to gather the Crests for my superiors, of whom are similar to myself in terms of disposition."
He clasped his hands together before him, now bearing a saddened look.
"I know I look outwardly imposing, but does the term 'Don't judge a book by it's cover' not apply to all meetings? Please, give a humble entity a chance... you can trust me. Besides-"
He abruptly held a clawed hand up, a sphere of bright yellow light forming in his hand.
"How can a true demon hold sway over the powers of Light, so holy and divine a property? I assure you that I am not like most fiends... if this ability does not prove it, nothing will."
With that, he flared his fingers, splaying them even wider as the sphere of light rocketed into the air, dispersing into ring-shaped waves of light that rushed beautifully across the sky, temporarily negating all shadows within a 100-foot radius. The effect eventually ended, and he glanced back down at the two Spectrobes before him.

Chiggar merely shook her head.
"It proves nothing. I've heard the tales, and seen physical proof, however fleeting, of corrupted versions of our kind. I've seen them, and they're evil too the core. They, however, still retain all their light-born power, so much so that it even feels the way it should. Had I not seen a 'Dark' Spectrobe, your little display would've erased all doubt."
Seela's look quickly transformed from curiousity to horror, "T-They're real!? The Dark Spectrobes!?"
Chiggar merely glanced back at her companion and nodded, "I'm afraid they are, and they're worse then the tales describe them."
The Rydrake just froze there, shivering.

Phalanx issued a heavy sigh at this, shaking his head.
"Again, though such a thing is true, there -are- exceptions. If you choose to further doubt me, however, I cannot change that. Still, if you change your mind, just let me know... I may be around for quite some time, thanks to this mission..."
He abruptly paused, back stiffening, and a look of sheer malice crossed his face.
"HIM..." He growled.
He abruptly whirled around to catch a large blade between his index and middle finger, scowling at the entity that was holding it. A red humanoid, covered in a perfect blend of scales and rough hide, glared back at Phalanx over what appeared to be an organic faceplate composed of chitin, a similar material covering other sections of its body. What seemed most curious, however, were the facts that its wings, while bat-like in shape, bore black, red-slicked feathers instead of leather, and five green spheres slightly larger than golfballs seemed to be embedded in its form in parallel spots. It snarled, then whirled around and swept a high kick at Phalanx's head, to which the gray gargoyle caught and hurled his attacker into a nearby junk pile, leveling it.
"He is one of them! He's an evil demon working against my superiors!" Phalanx hissed.
The red demon staggered out of the pile, rubbing its horned head in pain. It looked up in time to get blasted back by a large beam of light from Phalanx's outstretched foreclaw as the 'ex'-archfiend snarled,
"Arma's dog! Have you followed me even here?! No matter- here shall be your grave!"
The red demon abruptly burst forth from the pile, gliding overhead on its bloodstained, black wings before spiraling at Phalanx, one of the green spheres starting to become alight with energy as it did so. Phalanx could only grunt as the fist slammed into his face with an explosion of energy, sending the gray demon skidding to a halt near Chiggar and Seela. He hissed, wiping the blood from his mouth as he rose to his feet, muttering to the Spectrobes,
"I have to go! Kill him, or he'll torture you for information!"
With that, the gargoyle leapt into the air, spreading his blade-like wings before sailing off into the sky, blasting back his red oppressor with another beam of light to ensure he did not follow. The crimson devil stumbled down the side of a junk pile, grunting as his head smashed into the ground. He groaned, muttering as his feet finally touched down,
"Ugh... I dunno if ressurection was a fair trade in this... situation."
His faceplate snapped apart and slid into sections of chitin on his cheekbones, revealing a surprisingly human, and familiar at that, face. He slowly sat up, ruffling his silver-gray hair before attempting to raise himself back onto his feet with the greatsword he held.

Chiggar didn't trust Phalanax, but she wasn't planning on being caught off guard by something else either.
However, even she couldn't have anticipated the human-like face underneath the armor. It may have been different from what she remembered, but she could still put a name to that face.
"Garrett? What... What happened to you? And why are you so different from last time?" the Villakroma asked.
Seela blinked, looking at the demon, then back at Chiggar. "You know the creepy new guy?"
The Rydrake honestly thought Chiggar was gonna blast her for that question with how she scowled, but all she did was reply, "Yeah, I know him. Before he turned into that..."
