Volk was finally nearing the edge of the Darkwood Pack territory. He wasn't sure if he'd be lucky enough to meet Ashen before any other lycan this time. However he did not forget the offer that was made to him and after talking with Lora earlier decided he might as well look into it.
Master are you sure this is a good idea? After should any other lycan find you, you will likely be marked for execution on the spot.
"Yes I know Grosspoliner but if I am to survive I must find someone I can rely on as much as it may pain me to do so. This has been the only offer I've had and if I accept it I could possibly have two people to help me should I need it", he responded to his sword.
Volk began to think though, "He is right though if one of them finds me I'm as good as dead. After all Pack Elders aren't known for being very forgiving even to their own pack members. But I must press on and establish some place in this world where I can begin work on my vengeance."
He shifted to his Dalu form and began bounding through the trees following the scent of Ashen hoping he wouldn't be found out before reaching his target. He may be a secretive person but he was trying to sneak around Lycans which are some of the hardest beings to surprise and move around undetected.

After several minutes of bounding, Volk's search seemed to bear no fruit. However, eventually, he had found someone... or, something had found him. Several hisses shot through the area before a lithe black creature bounced down and slammed into him. Two more pounded down onto the ground nearby from the trees, their small, beady eyes trained on the blue lycan. A tail lashed out from behind the one who'd tackled Volk and sliced a deep gouge into his shoulder, four sets of claws latching onto the werewolf's torso. The other two kept their distance for the moment, tails swaying as they watched.
The one atop Volk hissed and shrieked before lashing forward and taking a large chunk of flesh out of the lycan's chest, reeling backwards as it worked its jaws around the meat, eventually allowing the chunk to slide down its throat. That done, it proceeded to try to nail Volk in the head with its bladed tail.
"Hold still, damn you!" It growled.

Volk sat for a moment before he rolled backwards putting the black creature on its back. He shifted to his Gauru form causing his regeneration to speed up a bit. He formed his ice gaunlets and forced one through the torso of the creature freezing the wound as he pierced it.
"Gah you damn beast you'll be lucky if I end this quickly for you. Seeing as I have business to attend to I'll make it quick but for your sake it's going to feel like hell", he snarled at the pinned beast as it writhed from the opening torn in its chest.
Volk planted his feet in the creature's gut and launched himself into the air as he rose he created two Ice Shots and kicked each towards one of the other two creatures sitting on the sidelines. As he came back down he brought his hand down in a point into the creatures skull. He pierced from the would-be forehead of the creature to the rear of its head creating a tube of ice where the flesh had been exposed from his attack. He yanked it free and flicked his wrist stetching it out.
"Seems I need to get some damn bug spray... industrial strength. You freaks chose a bad day to attack me. I'm in a horrendous mood", he hissed. "Better leave now if your lives have any value. Your friend there is dead and so shall you be if you don't listen."

The two on the sideline, after dodging both Ice Shots, looked down at their fallen compatriot, then issued chittering laughs as a foul smell was brought to Volk's attention. Said stink seemed to be issuing from the dead Xenolith and seemed particularly gag-inducing. It was then the two took to the air on pairs of pterodactyl-like wings and dissapeared back into the trees, their chitterings echoing through the forest. Several seconds passed before the creatures flitted out again, claws extended as they dove at Volk...
One of them nicked his cheek with its claws, causing a terrible pain to shoot through the right side of his face. Such a distraction allowed the other to whirl around behind Volk and run him through on its tail, the end of the blade jutting out of the lycan's stomach.

Volk howled in pain as the tail blade shot through his torso. He called for Grosspoliner to transform and he grabbed it spinning it behind his back severing the tail from its owner. He pulled the dismembered tail out of his gut from the front and cast it to the side.
"damn bugs you're fragile and yet you can be damaging enough to be considered annoying", he growled.
He lept into the air at one and caught it's back as it tried to dodge. As he settled himself on its back he bit into the base of one of the wings causing the freeze to make the joint fragile until it borke off from the continued use of the limb. As they fell to the ground Volk lept off it's back and sent an Ice shot into the back of its head. Just before he touched down on the ground he sent a wave of Diamond Dust at at the enemy that remained unharmed.

As the second creature perished under Volk's onslaught, the third hissed angrily and jumped backwards and away from Volk's Diamond Dust. It blinked its beady, dark-blue eyes at him, then jumped upwards and lashed its head out, sending a spray of foul-smelling brown-green liquid at the lycan. The moment it impact the lycan's forearm, a dull pain shot through the limb as the fur began to darken, then rapidly pale as it fell off... and the skin began to 'melt' open, as if rotting at an extreme rate. The creature issued a triumphant hiss, then swooped down at Volk, severing the appendage at the elbow as it swept by. It landed back down in the branches of a tree, tearing the limb apart with its dagger-like teeth and ingesting the entrails.
It dropped the limb when it had chewed half of it down to the bone, then hunched down, eyeing Volk hungrily before bounding forward for another attack.

Volk clutched his left arm as it began to regenerate. He glared at the bug that took his arm. He launched at the being only to have it take flight while he landed on the branch. He shot out at the creature and slashed the bases of its wings causing them to freeze up and fall to the ground unable to take to the air.
Once the both of them landed Volk slashed its throat with the hand that wasn't taken from him causing the creatures airway to fill with ice. He then forced his hand through it's mouth freezing the jaws shut. He rolled off the creature to suffer its slow death before he finally slammed an Ice Shot into its chest to finish it.
"damn bugs I hope to never deal with you again. Urmph...", he gagged and began to puke heavily taking up to 5 seconds per retch. After about 5 minutes he had started to dry heave intermittently and flopped onto his back from exhaustion and not being able to breathe from puking so much.
Grosspoliner lay stuck in the ground in blade form issuing no sound whatsoever knowing his master was in no mood to talk. Volk lay there watching the sky as he recuperated from this short ordeal wondering when he would finally find Ashen again.

The sound of multiple feet pounding on the grass came to Volk's keen hearing, one set of which had stopped about a dozen feet from him. Heavy breathing was heard before a low voice growled,
"What's a Nightpeak doing in Darkwood territory...?"
A thick, gray-furred arm grabbed Volk by the throat and hefted him up, bringing the dark-blue lycan face-to-face with another of his kind. The new lycan's teeth were bared as he growled,
"You're a spy, aren't you?! Talk!"
He shoved Volk back onto the ground, then threw his head back and issued a howl to his pack members, alerting them to the presence of an unwanted presence. He looked back down at Volk and muttered,
"We'll see if you talk with my hunting party..."

The creatures' blood had finally taken its toll on Volk as he began to cough causing spurts of blood to come out with each one. He rolled on the ground in pain not knowing how this was possible or why his regeneration wasn't halting it. He cleared his throat momentarily and muttered a few words.
"Gah... I'm no spy... I just came looking for someone in your pack who had invited me to talk with him. I have no real ties with the Nightpeak anymore besides the fact I was born of them. Heh... it's not like I'm in any condition to fight you boys", he coughed blood no slowly dripping from his mouth. "But know this... it is not my day... to die... so choose your actions carefully."
He hacked and spat out a small pool of blood where he lay awaiting what kind of fate would befall him when the other pack members arrived. He began to retch uncontrolably as his throat kept healing and being torn apart in turn the blood coming in small bursts. As the wait went on the ground below him was thoroughly soaked with his blood and emitted an iron smell.
What a wonderful damn day this has been. Curse you Ashen for being so loose with your security and not even asking for my name.
He sat on his knees taking long gasping breaths following with small coughs as he began to beat back the internal problems rather slowly.

The gray lycan stared down at Volk with a half-sneer, half-smirk on his face.
"Right... and you're in no condition to be making threats, traitor!" He growled.
It was then several other lycans pounded into view, shifting from their Dalu into the Gauru forms.
"This is the intruder...?" One of them muttered, shaking his head.
"He can barely stand, Granite... what makes you think he'll be a threat?" A femme added.
The gray lycan seemed a bit abashed by this, but replied defiantly,
"B-but he was just fine a few seconds ago! He got ambushed by some Nightstalkers!"
"A likely story, Granite... but if this is true, why didn't you help him? Ex-Nightpeak or not, he's still a fellow lycan who showed you no harm." A familiar growl resounded.
The gray one visibly panicked for a moment as Ashen stepped into view, scowling down at him.
"I-I'd just gotten here when he was like this! I didn't know he-"
"Then how did you know he was ambushed by Nightstalkers?" Ashen asked, arms folded over his massive chest.
Granite stammered, trying to piece together jumbles of words.
"I... he... look at the corpses!" He exclaimed.
Ashen shook his head and gave a short laugh.
"Alright, alright.... it's fine, Granite. I'll punish you later. But for now, this lycan has an 'appointment' with me. Everyone else go about your routine."
Several exchanged confused glances, but a rumble from Ashen set them skittering off in various directions, Granite looking downcast as he did so. Ashen sighed, then grabbed Volk, hauling him away from the site of the corpses. Sitting the blue lycan against a tree, Ashen shifted into his human form and sat on a nearby stump, allowing Volk to recuperate.
"So... what brings you to my neck of the woods?" Ashen asked, staring off into the night sky with a distant look.

As Volk thought over the question he gave a small laugh. He shifted from his Gauru form back to his human form since the effects of the creatures weren't affecting him as badly now that he'd been moved.
"It seems that no matter where I go I somehow come to be tied to you in a way. Why just the other night I met your niece Lora. Grand little gal with a wicked Aspect too I might add even if she still has some skills to receive from it. But the point is when I met her she told me that if I plan on surviving in this world I should likely try and find someone to affiliate myself with. Well the only offer I've received was yours and she said it would be a good one to accept so here I am", he wheezed. He hacked again and spit out a small globule of blood to the ground.
"Grah what the hell were those damn things that attacked me? They smelled awful fierce but fight like little rats. That Granite fellow is pretty cheeky isn't he, must be a young recruit heh. Ah well whatever he wasn't going to do much especially not in the presence of a superior", he groaned. "So tell me how much are you risking for yourself by just talking with me here and if you accept me as a 'member'."

Ashen didn't respond right away. He waited several silent moments to take in all of what Volk'd said, before he silently sighed, and replied,
"Things are different down here in Darkwood, apparently. We're not quite as strict when it comes to new members."
He turned his gaze towards Volk, his eyes reflecting eerily in what little light there was.
"However, you are from a neighboring pack... I myself would not be in much trouble for initiating you, but... you, on the other hand, might not be looked upon so kindly, even if you explained yourself to the others."
He sighed, shaking his head.
"But, as Pack Leader, I will do all I can for a lycan so ready and willing to join us. I'll speak with the Elder Council and see what I can do."
He rose to his feet, stretching out each leg as he did so.
"I hate to tell you this, but it'll probably take all night, so... I'd suggest finding somewhere for tonight. Preferrably not here, though... some of the pack members may not take too kindly to you yet."
He clenched and unclenched a hand, before turning and adding,
"Oh, and those things that attacked you... we call them Nightstalkers, though there might be a different name for them. They're nocturnal creatures with obvious carniverous properties. Their blood becomes toxic when exposed to air, same with the fumes. But I'm sure you know that by now. You should probably rest a little more before you head out."
With that, he sighed and walked off into the trees, slowly shifting into his Dalu form and sprinting away.

Volk watched as Ashen left into the night to coucnil his Pack Elders. He slowly picked himself up off the tree he was laying against. As he lifted himself his lungs filled with a fiery sensation causing him to cough and wheeze with a little blood dribbling from his mouth.
"urgh... this bites, bloody Nightstalkers. I'll have to remember to move after I kill one next time I encounter them. At least they don't explode like those other freaks did", he joked. "Well I think I'll head for the river I smelled earlier and camp out there since there ought to be a cave to hide in behind it, should cover my scent a fair deal too."
He began to walk off into the night not wanting to run fearing what kind of damage might be done to his lungs should he do so. As he went he coughed every once in a while small amounts of blood coming with each one but they got smaller each time.
