The meteor streaked across the sky and crashed into a large dune, sending sand flying high into the sky. The sand settled, revealing an obsidian-black hunk of rock roughly 50 feet in diameter. There were cracks running all over its entire form, and the cracks seemed to be... glowing red. The glow would occasionally 'pulse', and a sickly black mist was drifting out from some of the cracks. Every few minutes or so, a piece of the rock would crack off, emitting a foul smell.
A low roar echoed over the area as a small aircraft flew above the strange object, then hovered in mid-air before dropping in altitude at a moderate rate. Just as the ship was about to land, it... changed. The plane-shaped aircraft abruplty shifted its form into that of a 10 foot tall, bipeadal robot. A single teal-colored, visor-like eye shone out of the darkness as the mecha approached the edge of the crater and stared at the strange object. It crouched down as a light emitted from its eye and swept across the rock, scanning it.
"Strange... this isn't composed of any matter I know of... it's... almost organic..." The machine muttered.
It stood back up and pressed the side of it's head, asking,
"Sir, a strange meteor has landed in the desert. Could you send a pick-up crew so we could study it?"
"Alright. They'll be there in a bit." A familiar voice replied.
The mech nodded, and continued to stare at the meteor with its arms crossed.
"Something about this rock isn't right..." It muttered.

Solranous, having used Flash Step to arrive quickly, spotted the mech a good 60 meters off, so he halted his advance and burrowed under the sand to make his movements more difficult to detect, and used his telekinesis in an attempt to make any sensory equipment the robot was using miss him completely. Slowly, the dragon managed to burrow his way to within fifteen feet of the meteorite, and the mech had either yet to notice him, or wasn't paying attention to him, he hoped it was the former as he noted the meteorites composition.
'Flesh-like?' he wondered, now curious, 'Could the meteorite itself be alive?'

The mech's head was still facing the meteorite, but its eye was scanning the area. It knew something, or someone, was trying to interfere with its sensors. His optics had detected heat senses below ground, and the mech was also aware it hadn't come from the meteor, so it was of no concern. It turned its attention back to the meteorite, which had just... split into fourths.
"What the hell?!" The mech shouted in surprise.
A burst of black mist issued from the open meteor as what appared to be large, black slugs with ridges of hard chitin on their backs inching across the crater and trying to get out of it. They were about 2-3 feet long each, and had no visible feature other than they were slightly wider at the front than at the back. They didn't even have antannae! A this point, the mech became curious, so it bent down and grabbed one of the alin creatures and began studying it. The mech flipped it over and over, watching it merely inch across his forearm and hand.
He grabbed it by the tail and picked it up, then turned it over and looked at the underside. He nearly dropped it.
On the bottom side was a nasty-looking, lamprey-like mouth and a small row of tiny, serrated curved spikes that functioned as locomotion.
"Geez... the mouth suggests these thing must be some sort of parasite." The mech muttered, bringing a finger to its chin.
It then tossed the thing onto the ground, watching it slowly inch away like the others. However, a few of them had burrowed under the sand, a few coming close to Solranous. When one of the alien creatures burrowed next to the dragon, it abruptly stopped, undulating. It then shifted course and headed straight for the dragon...

His bladed tail sang through the sand and made a small, non fatal to his anger, indent with which he could hold it back, seeing as being underground didn't help him, as he couldn't properly defend himself in this condition, he decided to surface with the creature.
The sand shifted as his spines emerged, followed by the rest of body and his tails, attached to which the creature was flung off. It landed on the ground, and Solranous allowed it to be covered in sand, but then flared his fire breath, turning the sand around the creature into a durable prison of glass. The dragon clutched the glass prison in his hand and pull it away from the sand, observing the creature with in while deciding to hover a good seven feet above the ground with telekinesis.
"You are a curious little creature, and it makes me wonder what world you come from." the dragon murmered to himself as he looked through the glass at it. It fruitlessly banged its armored head against the glass, in an attept to escape that failed. It didn't relent, and tried again.
"And stubborn, too." he mused, freezing it with telekinesis. He glanced at the mech, who had undoubtly identified him now that he was in sight and the sensors weren't being interrupted anymore, and shrugged, not making any hostile actions toward it.

The mech laughed, then stated,
"They seem to be taking a liking to you."
Indeed, several of the things were on the ground directly below Solranous, every so often one of the would rear back and clack the teeth at the dragon, but otherwise were still. The mech shrugged, then walked over to the circle of slugs and waited. The alien creatures seemingly ignored him. The mech shook his head, then pressed the side of his head, stating,
"Forget the lift, just get some large containment units."
The mech sighed, then glanced at the alien Solranous was holding. His eye widened.
The glass was cracking around it as the alien life-form was expanding and mutating into... something. The glass prison finally shattered, and the thing flopped onto the ground as it grew to about 12 feet long, then sprouted a pair of clawed arms and draconic wings. A defined head sprouted from the front of the thing's body, and a row of familiar spines sprouted from its back. Eventually, the thing resembled a black, mutated form of Solranous. Instead of legs, it had a thick, plated tail that t blanced itself up onto, and the spines were slightly curved upwards at the ends. The thing turned its blood-red eyes towards Solranous, and let out an unholy hiss as its bottom jaw split apart.
The mech was shocked to see something so small transform so quickly! The abberation-Solranous spread its wings, of which on the outer-edge was a row of spurrs. It then cioled on its tail and launched into the air, shrieking hideously. The mech gave the other aliens a curious look, then stated,
"Yeah... I'd reccomend staying away from those things."
Meanwhile, the slugs below Solranous seemed to have lost interest in him, and began inching away as their bretheren had. They were heading for the city, it seemed. Shortly after, any remaining creatures simply burrowed underground and out of sight. The mecha slapped its forehead, muttering,
"Ah, they'll be pissed when they show up..."

Solranous' eyes had buldged when the creature mutated to look like him, yet still be slug-like.
"Do they take the genetic material of whatever living creature they touch, and then mutate into a new form with it?" Solranous wondered silently...
...
Oh SH*T!
Solranous bolted as fast as he could, taking a long way around the creatures with flash step as he arrived back at the abandonned district so he could fight off the creatures if need be.

The mech 'blinked', then looked up as a small group of human-sized robots showed up, holding large clear canisters. They were glancing around the area, and one asked,
"Sir! Where are the subjects?"
The larger mecha sighed, then replied,
"They escaped. Though it seems they can assimilate whatever genetic material they touch into their forms and construct a new body using it."
The mech turned around and faced the city, its teal eye shining.
"If the boss asks where I am, tell him I'm going to pursue the subjects." It stated in a knightly manner.
It jumped into the air and assumed its jet form before rocketing off towards the city. The remaining robots shrugged, then headed towards the meteor, picking off pieces of the rock and putting them in the containers. They nodded when the tubes were full, and they left the way they came.
