Volk awoke to the familiar darkness of his cave and the warmth of the shackles on his skin. He looked to his wrists and the cuffs around them. Bearing ornate markins from an unknown origin they held the power to keep one's Werewolf forms sealed. As if to mock him further they kept him in a cave heated by the dormant crater to keep him from using his Aspect at all. His only companion was his faithful friend and servant Grosspoliner which had found its way to where he now was.
Grosspoliner hovered up to its masters head and spoke to him telepathically.
My master when will we be leaving this place?
"Soon enough Grosspoliner, soon enough", Volk mused to himself as he awaited the change of the guards and his meal.
The guards gave the usual howl of acknowledgement for shift switching and the new guard came in with the meal as usual. He set it down in front of Volk and taunted.
"I hear that they've actually decided to execute you now Berg. This may very well be your last meal before your death", the guard sneered. He turned his back as Volk began to eat in peace.
Master is now the time?
Volk responded by taking his spoon between his toes and drew a circle in the dust he had collected below him. He then focused an energy stream into it through his foot causing it to glow lightly. As it glowed the carvings in the chains lit up as well and unlocked releasing him on the floor.
"Now Grosspoliner Blade form", he commanded. Grosspoliner hovered before his master and shifted into its blade form allowing his master to grab the hilt in his massive arm. As Volk began to walk out of the cave he noticed it was night and shifted to his Dalu form for some much needed strength.
The guard turned on him only to be promptly decapitated by Grosspoliner. Volk released Grosspoliner and had it shift back to its compact form.
"Finally I'm free from my packs exile. I can roam where I wish",Volk proclaimed. He started down the outside of the crater towards the forest where he felt most comfortable.
Wait for me my master. Grosspoliner called having just finished his revert.

For a moment, the night seemed to darken around Volk to the point of blindness... then abruptly shifted again.
"Void, leave him be..." A feminine voice called from nearby.
Elena was seen sitting in the high branches of a nearby tree, now wearing what appeared to be tattered black jeans and a gray tanktop, yet she still visibly bore her few important belongings... which wasn't much more than her beam saber, staff, and the Bracer. A pair of white, floating slits appeared in the air about five feet from her on the ground, the shadows around them slowly taking a large, bulky shape.
"Grah... I've been so bored lately though... we've done nothing but lay around since those... 'things' started after you..." Void rumbled, flexing his massive claws.
She merely gave Void an emotionless, indfifferent stare, then closed her eyes and sighed.
"See, Void, if you had to worry about being relentlessly pursued by monsters, you'd feel differently..."
Void gave what sounded like an echoing rumble, then glanced back at Volk.
"Looks like another Terran... but... he seems different..." The demon rasped.

Volk merely glanced at the large shadow that had engulfed him a moment ago. He stared at him before turning his gaze at the girl in the tree. He turned back to his assailant and spoke in a low but resolute tone.
"I'd suggest you back off if you value your life. I am not in the mood to be dealing with insignificants like yourself."
Master should I get ready to shift back to Blade Mode?
Volk responded, No not yet if they're going to leave us alone the better off we are. After all I have no idea how quickly the pack will notice me missing.
"I have no quarrel with you and, if possible, would like to keep it that way", he continued. "I have things I need to take care of and people I would rather get far away from."
Already in Dalu form he was prepared to shift to his Gauru form should he come into conflict with the dark man before him.

Void gave an echoing bark of a hollow laugh before Elena could respond. His milky orbs then gave Volk an amused stare as he replied,
"'If I value my life'? HA HA HA!! Excuse me if i say that seems like an empty threat coming from a mere mortal like yourself, but... yeah, seems kinda empty to me."
Void's eyes narrowed a bit more, and in what might pass as a wide-eyed, crazy grin, continued,
"And I wouldn't call people you're incapable of killing 'insignificant'... it might get you kil-"
"SHUT THE F*CK UP, VOID!!! THE MAN WANTS TO BE LEFT ALONE, SO LEAVE HIM BE!!!" Elena abruptly roared.
Void abruptly lowered a claw, then grumbled,
"Fine... have it your way..."
Elena, still scowling, merely glanced back at Volk as she leaned back against the tree, then jabbed a thumb into the forest.
"Well? Go on already... your 'pack' or whatever's probably on its way by now..." She muttered icily.

Volk merely averted his attention from the battle hungy shadow and looked at the girl accompanying him.
"Well if that's all the business you have with me I will take my leave of you. As annoying as it was it was nice to hear a voice other than the guards'. Goodbye", Volk turned from them and headed to the borderlands of his tribe with great haste so that he wouldn't be caught in his malnourished state.
As he reached the edge of the forest he shifted to his Urhan form and set off in a slow run so as not to injure himself after having been locked away with no exercise for decades.
Grosspoliner had managed to keep up despite his small size and lack of no physical propulsion.
Where will we go first master now that you are free?
Volk responded in a calm tone, "We will head to the southern outskirts of the Darkwood pack's territory for neither pack would dare to cross into the territory of another.
With that said he was nearing the outer edge of the Nightpeak territory and closer to true freedom.

It was then several deer burst forth from the trees, squealing in fear as they rushed past the icy Lycan. A single red, orb-like eye peered forth from the darkness as a deep voice rumbled,
"She is... near..."
The Cromian Lord Teragus then slowly stomped into view, the ground pulsating every time his feet touched the ground. His mandibles parted slightly as he stopped next to Volk, then gave the lycan a sideways stare of curiosity. The three claws on his barrel-like right arm slid against eachother as he rumbled,
"Hrmph... another one... not... important..."
With that, the Cromian master of Earth 'skated' along the ground past Volk without a second glance.

Volk payed no attention as the monstrosity went past him not giving him troubled though 'harumphed' to himself at being called unimportant.
Speeding along once more he found himself at the edge of the pack territory. He only had a small area of the Darkwood Pack's territory to cross through to get outside any and all Werewolf territories. Fortunately for his sake he was passing thru the outer edge of the territory.
Master be careful if the Darkwood Pack catches you out here they will surely eliminate just as the Nightpeak Pack would.
Yeah I hear you Grosspoliner but if I remember correctly neither pack was really into border patrols to prevent random conflicts from arising. Volk returned.
He pushed himself to the limit being confident that his body would not fail him now after being reintroduced to running free. Grosspoliner flew alongside with nothing audible being emitted from it.

"Hey, uhh.... you got a permit to go through here or something?" A lazy voice asked through the trees.
A humanoid shape was seen running through the trees behind Volk, a pair of glittering yellow eyes staring straight ahead. They occasionally glanced down at him questioningly, waiting for a response, but were used mostly to avoid incoming trees. The shape rippled before assuming a canine shape as well, of which eventually caught up with Volk, staying a good 5 feet away.
Nightpeak, eh? It pondered.

Volk gazed over to the fellow Werewolf running alongside him.
damn I was hoping a patrol wouldn't be out this far in the area. Bloody Darkwoods and they're timing.
He skid to a halt facing the Darkwood member. He shifted back to his human form realizing how close he had come to getting passed the border without notice. Grosspoliner hovered alongside Volk's head and talked with him.
You didn't take enough care to pay attention to the wind direction master he likely caught your scent on the wind as you crossed into the territory.
"So what're you gonna do with me now that you've found me here Darkwood I have no intentions of attacking your pack I am merely passing through on my way to an actual life. Now if you don't mind I would like to be on my way now", Volk stated.
Master do you want me to be ready to go into Blade Form shortly?
Volk shook his head no and waited for his reply.

The black wolf skidded to a halt about 10 feet from Volk and tilted its head at him, then shifted into its human form.
"Whoa, calm down there skipper, I never said anything about you not being able to come through here, I was just curious. I can't let unidentified's go through my pack's territory, ya know."
His eyes narrowed a bit, and he smirked, folding his burly, tanned arms. He shook a head of tangled, wiry black, shoulder-length hair, letting a fang poke out from between his lips.
"I don't think I recall getting any confirmation of a Nightpeak coming through here... are you abandoning your pack?"
His eyes widened slightly, taking up Volk's ragged appearance... ragged for even a werewolf.
"...or have they abandonded you...?" The lycan asked.

Volk watched for a moment to make sure that the Darkwood before him wouldn't make any advances before relaxing. He stood at his full height and addressed the Lycan before him.
"I am Berg Nightpeak, though I prefer the name Volk Otsdarva. Twenty years ago my pack locked me away to try and prevent a terrible tragedy from befalling the Nightpeak. They had apparently decided to execute me just today though I have recently made my escape. So in a sense we have abandoned each other", Volk said in a firm, emotionless tone. "I was just planning to cross to the far side of your territory so that my pack might be discouraged from tracking me down. I have no permission to be here so do what you will but I shall not be denied my freedom and life."
Grosspoliner floated at about hand level should his master need him. Volk shifted to the side and looked at the Lycan with his gray eyes showing no emotion but showing a resolute mind.

The burly man slowly smirked again, fang poking out between his lips as he glanced at Grosspoliner, then back at Volk.
"I see... well, to be honest, I'd have done the same thing in that kinda situation."
He leaned towards and glanced in the direction Volk came from, scratching his five o'clock shadow as he did so.
"I gotta say, though... for someone to actively defy the Nightpeak pack... they're a rowdy bunch, so I recall."
He turned back at Volk and gave him a nod, still smirking.
"You've got guts to do that, kid. I respect that kinda resolution!"
He stretched a hand out to the direction Volk'd been heading, then added,
"Alright, Volk... I'll let ya through. Just, uhh.... just don't tell anyone this happened... alright? An Alpha's gotta keep his appearances up!"
He gave a barking laugh, then spun on his heel and walked off into the trees to Volk's right, giving him a casual salute as he dissapeared into the darkness.
"You're always welcome in Darkwood...!" Was the last thing heard from Ashen, Packleader of the Darkwood tribe.

Volk watched as the pack leader walked off into the night. He stood frozen by the words that he had issued as he left.
"Why would he allow me, a Nightpeak, to visit his home of Darkwood freely? Sure he may be one of their leaders but I doubt that his elders would allow such a thing", Volk thought aloud.
Master I don't think he was joking or setting some form of trap for you but it is best you stay far away from the Darkwood. Who knows what might happen should their elders get wind of this.
"Fine I wasn't planning upon returning to this area until I get stronger to make the Nightpeak pay for what they did to me. Let's get out of here in case any other Darkwoods show up", with that he shifted back into his Urhan form and went on his way across the border of the Darkwood territory and onward to freedom.
