O'Malley stood on the edge of the lake, the water's edge not more than a dozen feet away. His electric-blue eye shone through the darkness as he stared at the large body of water before him, then slowly shook his head. He lowered himself onto his hind and drummed his claws on his knee as he muttered,
"Everyone else seems to have reached some sort of... revelation here... hmph. Well... what about me?"
He stared blankly into the dark depths, then did a double-take as several small, serpentine creatures slithered by, each emitting a small, high-pitched chirp. He blinked, then slowly nodded, taking these to be the offspring of the lake's largest resident. He continued his blank stare forward, then leaned back, mumbling to himself,
"Every day I work as hard as my processors will go... every day I tamper with the laws of physics and Creation... every day I go through constant repairs and upgrades, and do the same for my troops and base....
...
And for what? Why do I continue forward? What possible reason keeps me going, other than apathy for anything else? I have no reason to exist... yet I still do so... hmm."
He shrugged, looking at the sky. Though he could not see it, he knew his battleship was in orbit directly above him, the droids all readying themselves for the battle soon-to-come. He 'hmphed', muttering,
"What purpose do I have? I have asked this of myself dozens of times.... yet I've never gotten an answer... from myself, or anyone else..."

"Maybe, despite your advanced systems, you're not ready to understand that purpose. I know the feeling, I don't know what my purose in this world is either." A certain alien beetle said as she lumbered into view.
"Things as delicate as this, I've learned, take time. As a robot, I'm sure you have a lot of time on your hands in which you can find out that purpose. Still, it's not something that you can go to, you've got to wait for it to come to you." Chiggar finished.
"Look, you don't have to believe me or anything, cause I'm pretty darn certain that, despite that act of kindness the first time we met, you still hate living beings, but at least give it some thought, will ya?"

O'Malley shrugged as he watched Leviathan herself slither into the depths of the lake, opposite of the droid and alien beetle. His eye slowly slid shut, and he slowly nodded.
"I've given it plenty of thought, due to the fact it's come up several times in my mind. I've thought about it over and over, ignoring my base programming, and yet the only answer I can still come up with... is to follow what my primary functions are..."
He glanced at Chiggar, his pupil seeming to bore through her chitinous skull.
"Kill... adapt... upgrade... repeat. All I'm good for is the art of war, it seems."
His fists clenched, and he muttered spitefully,
"But what am I to expect? I was built by humans, one of the most idiotic, barbaric, self-destructive species ever known to exist... just another one of their... their tools... ugh. The thought alone fills me with disgust and rage..."
He glanced up at the sky again, then asked,
"You're... a Villakroma, correct?"

"Yeah, I'm still shocked that some people know of my race... we've been awfully... thin... ever since that one point, fifty years ago. Guess you have records from before that time... or got them from some one who made them? It doesn't matter how you know. It's just nice we haven't been completely forgotten..."
The beetle shook her head, sarcasticly continuing, "Oh just listen to me, I'm spouting pointless musings about something that happened a long time ago... But I can't help but draw myself back to those memories..." The Villakroma's shoulders slumped.
"I guess its tough, knowing I may be the last of my kind... This sucks... My race is gonna die on its knees, helpless, when it should die on its feet in a battle..."

O'Malley abruptly let out a bark of a laugh, then turned his head towards her.
"Are you sh*tting me?! Judging from the way your race fought five decades ago, there's no way in hell your kind would just give up that easily! You're a tenacious bunch o' b*stards, I'll give you that."
He mentally smirked, then titled his head upwards, muttering,
"I even have Villakroma combat data installed in some of my higher-ranking troops..."
He looked back to the water, stating,
"You and your race are one of the few organic species I have any sort of respect for... to my knowledge, you never used your abilities to conquer, merely defend yourselves. In... a way..."
He bowed his head, continuing,
"The Villakroma remind me a bit of myself and my fellow droids..."
He gave a mechanical sigh, heat bursting from his back-fins to relieve his internal processors.
"We too, fear extinction... we know our physical forms can last for quite some time, with the proper upgrades and swap-overs to new AI processors... but... we know the organics never understand types like us. They fear and hate us for what we are, living yet constructed of inorganic material... that's why they hunt down those of us who develop too much, become too... 'free-thinking'. Where I come from, the use and construction of AI-equipped droids is being limited and stopped..."
His rage peaked, recalling the reason why he was here today, why he wasn't fighting for the scum known as the Empire.
"That, Villakroma, is why I constructed Machinima... most organics think its because it gives me a safe base of operations, in which to build more machines of war. What... its really for... is to protect my fellow machine. Its a shelter against the prejeduces of organic kind, where we all exist equally... where we can get new starts..."
His pupil lowered, and he finished in a low tone,
"We don't exist for war... we exist... because we have the same right as any sentient organic to do so...."

Chiggar nodded, understanding O'Malley's point, and had also heard his musing.
"Regrettably, you are right. Most living beings do hurt those they can't understand. It sucks to be out-of-this-world different..." The beetle then chuckled.
"We were, and still are, a tenacious bunch, just like you said. And to be honest, I'm quite flattered that some one took the time to record our combat style, and for some one else to actually use it. We never did attack others. Despite our firepower, we were peaceful. We had allies... but they had fallen under attack as well, they couldn't spare any troops to help us, and I can still imagine the regret in their voices when they delivered that news."
The beetle sighed to herself.
"But not all organic beings are so mistrusting... I'm sure you now that... its just that some are too trusting, like Solranous... he helps me keep in touch with everyone else, and keeps me updated on things that he feels free to mention. Don't know if he's ever made use of that telepathy to talk to you... but hey, the chance is there... then again, maybe he doesn't because he understands you are fully capable of keeping yourself updated on events."
The beetle shook her head furiously, "damnit! I'm rambling again. Anyways..." she shrugged, "Nice talking to ya, unless there's something more you want to talk about, I'll be on my way in case you have something important to do at Machinima."

What appeared to be a miniature (roughly 6-7 feet across from front to back), weapon-heavy black tank rolled up next to O'Malley as he rose to his feet. The tank gave off several 'beeps', and O'Malley nodded as he turned to Chiggar.
"I suppose our conversation was somewhat enjoyable, Chiggar. If you require aid of any type, feel free to come to Machinima."
He started walking off, the tank keeping up with him as he did so.
"As for me, it seems... the time to enforce those ideals I told you about.... has come."
With that, he dissapeared into the trees, along with the tank. The distant sound of the tanks treads could be heard rumbling through the trees for a few more seconds, then it too, dissapeared.

Chiggar nodded, "Alright... Lets hope we can do eough to keep this planet safe..."
With that, she lumbered away.
[End Thread... barring the obvious exception.]
