Lora sat upon a cliff at the forest's edge, arms wrapped around her knees as she stared at the city with two dull, emotionless eyes. She'd been like this for a while, staying away from the others, even the pack of wolves she enjoyed visiting so frequently. She sighed, muttering something incoherent under her breath as she rested her chin on her crossed arms.
The sound of grass moving caught her attention, and she quickly glanced over her shoulder to see the cloaked figure that had just been at Solranous's house. Her breath caught when she saw the two black claws jutting out of the front of each foot, but the cloak quickly covered those.
"Who... who're you?" She asked cautiously.
O'Malley glanced at her casually, though, in fact, he was nervous upon seeing one of the two people most affected by his 'death'. He shrugged at her, muttering in an altered voice,
"A friend. Why do you ask?"
Her hand tightened around a fistful of grass, but she didn't seem to notice.
"I, uh... I thought you might be someone I knew..." She muttered, turning away.
O'Malley took a few steps forward, standing a step behind her and to the side.
"Oh? Who might that be, if you don't mind me asking? I might know where he/she is..." O'Malley questioned.
Lora scowled, eyes downcast.
"I doubt it... he's dead. He's been dead for a few weeks."
O'Malley's fist clenched slightly under the tattered rags, but he took no notice.
"And why do you miss him?" O'Malley asked in a low tone.
Lora was about to turn around and scream at this entity, but something about him seemed so... familiar. Trustworthy, if not familiar at least.
"He... he was a good friend of mine. He 'saved' me a few times, if that's what you want to call it. I was almost pushed over life's edge, but he talked me out of it... no one had ever seen him do so much for someone else. Then, after that, I wasn't completely in control of myself, some creep named the Patriarch was pulling my strings. Again, this person managed to help me. He'd done so much for me in such little time, and I never really got to thank him before he eventually lost it, and..."
Her words were choked as she finished the statement.
"Before he decided to take his own life."
O'Malley stared at Lora with newfound wonder. That was why she wanted to save him? Because she felt she was in debt? Or something else?
"So... you've been here for the past few weeks, moping over his death? Are you sure he'd want that?" He asked.
Lora glared at O'Malley and replied,
"It doesn't matter if he'd want it or not, I can't really help myself! He was one of the few people that actually cared about my well-being, when I had barely seen him before!"
O'Malley lowered his head as she turned hers back, then muttered in his original voice,
"Maybe he saw who you really were."
Lora's eyes widened, and she suddenly lashed her head back around to face the droid. Her eyes started to water over, and she asked,
"O... O'Mal-"
"Maybe he knew the impact your death would make on the others that cared about you. Maybe he didn't want to see an innocent take her own life." O'Malley cut her off.
She blinked, two tears running down her face.
"....it.... it is you.... isn't it?" She asked huskily.
O'Malley tilted his head to the side, replying,
"Maybe it is, maybe it isn't."
He grunted when she practically tackled him, throwing her arms around his waist and crying,
"HOW?! How did you come back?!"
He grabbed he rlightly and pulled her off, muttering,
"Let's just say you can't keep me killed forever. Look, I wanted to apologize to you... about what I did..."
Lora smiled, shaking her head.
"Don't mention it. I forgive you just for coming back."
O'Malley nodded, then took several steps back.
"Now that that's been said, I've got to go clean up the rest of the mess I've made."
He suddenly bolted into the woods, eye narrowed as Lora quickly became a point in the distance.
Why... did her heart rate go up when she found out it was me? He thought to himself.
