Shive stepped out of the woods onto the beach, sighing in relief. The lake's surface was crystal-clear, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. It appeared as if today would be a good day, for once. The dragonkin was adorned in his usual swimming attire, but with him he had a small crate, of which 'tinkled' whenever it moved. Next to him stood Mortis, who still bore a metaphorical stormcloud hanging low over his head. Shive rolled his eyes, muttering,
"Stop moping, damnit! We're here to have fun today, not whine about cr-"
The dragonkin was cut off when Mortis's tail-spikes had lodged themselves in his shin, making him yelp as Mortis wrenched them back out, pacing towards the water with that same look. Shive grumbled, rubbing his bloodied shin as he hobbled towards the shorline as well, taking the crate with him.
She said she'd be here at about this time... where is she? Shive thought, looking around the treeline with a cocked eyebrow.
Shrugging, he watched Mortis slip into the water and dive into its depths, barely sending a ripple out as he did so. Shive rubbed his eyes, sighing before raising his head and thinking aloud,
"Mortis never told me if the others were showing up either..."

"Hey Shive!" Myrr called down to him as she descended from the sky, Solranous following up soon after with Kisara in his arms. The half dragon bounced once as she landed, then jogged over to Shive's side, noting the box and deciding against glomping him today.
Solranous just used his telekinesis to hover, his wings being used to direct his own descent. As his feet touched the ground, he let Kisara drop down to her feet as well. Kisara streched out a bit, before asking Shive, "So what's going on that you wanted us to show up?"

Shive sighed, pushing the box off to the side.
"Nuthin, really. I just thought we could use a break, what with all the stuff that's been happening lately..." He stated, staring off into the depths of the lake.
His gaze fell, and he added,
"Like what happened at Machinima..."
He snapped out of his daze, then shouted,
"But hey, that's why we're here, I guess. Good weather for it too, eh?"
Jumping to his feet, he turned to them and asked, tongue poking out,
"So who's up for a swim?"
Without waiting for a response, Shive suddenly whirled around and cannonballed into the water, shouting,
"Don't touch the booooox!"
The ensuing explosion of water managed to reach shore, managing to drench only Myrr.
* * * * * * *
Meanwhile, in the depths of the lake, Mortis was still descending, his yellow optics a mere glow in the dark of the deep water.
Levi.... Leeevi.... where are ya? He thought to himself, glancing from side to side.

Myrr blinked, rubbing her eyes. How was she the only one to get drenched by the wave a water?
"Well... Seeing as my clothes are already wet, I don't see any real reason to change into a swim suit." Myrr said, then shrugged, diving in after Shive. Solranous chuckled.
"It's been a while since I was able to just take a leisurely swim. What about you, Kisara?" the dragon spoke, turning to the human in question.
"Meet cha in the water!" Kisara replied, moving behind a tree to change in privacy. Solranous grinned, jumping up and diving into the lake. As she said, Kisara, with just a red bikini on, also dived in. She surfaced soon after, but noticed that Solranous and Myrr were still underwater, both using their wings to propel themselves along, as well as a crocodile-like motion from Solranous.
Shrugging to herself, Kisara followed them on the water's surface, trying to keep up with the much more powerful Solranous, who could push more water behind him to thrust forward then she could, and the stream-lined Myrr, who pretty much ignored water resistance.
Curious as to what Mortis was doing, as he had sensed him diving deeper, Solranous surfaced in front of Kisara, inhaling a large amount of oxygen, before diving down again, intent on following the blue wyrmling.

Shive cackled, rushing at Myrr and grabbing her around the waist, then spun around and tossed her into the air with little effort. Catching her as she fell, he then carelessly (though lightly) tossed her to the side, laughing.
* * * * * *
Either Mortis wasn't aware of the dragon, or he didn't care as he continued on his descent into the lake.
She's gotta be around here somewhere... but where? He thought.
Mortis changed direction, now swimming forward to scout the entire lakebed. as to why, however was unknown...
Just then a powerful current of water swept into Solranous, a deep moaning sound similar to that of a whale's echoing throughout the depths.

Myrr yelped with surprise as Shive tossed her, seeing as she went under water again... And didn't get a chance to breathe in more oxygen. The half dragon scrambled to the surface, which wasn't very far away, and gasped for air. Sighing to herself, she dove back under. Kisara sighed at their antics.
--------------------------------------------------------
Solranous' eyes bulged when he felt the current and heard the moaning. the dragon glanced around, staying calm. He extended his telepathic senses, in an attempt to find whoever, or whatever was making the sound.

"Whoops, my bad!" Shive apologized, despite the fact she couldn't hear him.
He glanced sideways, his eyes catching a figure in the shade of the forest's edge. It made a beckoning motion, and Shive side, wading back to shore.
"Be right back; gotta take care of something real quick."
Grabbing the small crate, he bounded along the shore until he dissapeared into that region of the trees.
* * * * * *
Suddenly, a large, serpentine shape shot past Solranous, the current taking him along with it for a few moments before he managed to pull free. The shape had to have been at least 40 feet long, bearing two small fins near the upper-middle of its body, and another wider fin on the end of its tail. A triangular head was visible at the front, adorned by a triangular frill on either side of its head, the shadows of the lake concealing any other features. The beast undulated towards Mortis, who had whirled around, a grin spreading across his maw.
The small wyrmling rushed forward to meet the serpent, of which whirled around him for a few seconds before the two settled down on a large cluster of rocks off to the side of the lakebed. The serpent coiled around the rock as it faced Mortis, who was now laying down. The serpent issued another whale-like moan, its maw barely opening before closing again. A few dolphin-like clicks emanated from the beast, and Mortis muttered aloud,
"Ahh... nothing, really. Just feeling depressed, is all. Back home, I used to be of actual use. Here, I just get in the way. why Dad sent me here, and not back to the Realm is beyond me..."
The serpent issued another whining noise, but shorter.
"I suppose... it's true, I'm glad I met you, Levi, but... I just... hate this place. This place and almost everyone here..."
The serpent leaned closer, issuing a few more clicks.
"Don't bring her up... please. She hates me too." Mortis muttered, glancing off to the side.

Solranous couldn't help but clench his fist at those words.
"Wow..." the dragon spoke into Mortis' mind dryly, "Talk about being real unappreciative of our efforts to help you. If thats really the way you felt, why didn't you just get together your courage and just say to our faces next time?"
The dragon didn't bother to give time for Mortis to respond, ascending to the surface with utmost ease using his telekinesis. He then rocketed out and landed on the shore, laying down and curling up while waiting for the others. His mood had gone completely south at that, which was rather clear, now that the local wildlife was making every effort to keep about a thirty foot distance between themselves and the now very sour dragon.
Myrr surfaced upon seeing the dragon's mood as he left the water, and contemplated asking what was wrong before she decided against it. Solranous wasn't someone she liked to question too much, especially in sour moods like this.

Mortis's eyes narrowed at Solranous's exit, and he sighed, eyes clamping shut.
"Because I knew you honestly didn't care... you just did it for Shive's sake..." He muttered, turning away.
The water around the dragon began to slowly freeze as his claws clenched, and he roared,
"WHY COULDN'T BAHAMUT HAVE JUST LEFT ME DEAD?!"
The serpent moaned again, nudging Mortis, and the wyrmling shook his head.
"Whatever... I'm leaving." He muttered, kicking off of the rock.
Thin trails of frost trailing behind him from his nostrils, Mortis bolted through the water faster than expected before bursting forth from the surface and landing. He gave those on the other side of the lake on last glaring look before trotting off into the woods. The serpent was shortly after, its front half surfacing from the waves. It was a dark-blue on top, lightening to a dusky tan-gray on the bottom, with two pupil-less yellow eyes. It stare off into the woods before cocking its head in Kisara, Myrr, and Solranous's direction, staring blankly at them for several moments before it snaked slowly back into the water.

Kisara blinked for a few seconds, treading water.
"...What the hell was that?" she asked, scratching her head.
Myrr came up beside her, and shrugged, "Beats me... probably the fabled 'Loch Ness Monster'..."
Kisara's face visibly drained. "Loch Ness Monster?"
Myrr nodded, and shrugged again. She hauled Kisara out of the water as soon as she fainted, then sat down beside her and Solranous.
"Um... do I wanna know what's got you down all of a sudden." Myrr asked the dragon, who snorted a burst of smoke.
"No."

A small explosion erupted from the nearby trees, and a few minutes later Shive stumbled out, blackened and coughing.
"goddamnit, I told her that crap was still flammable, but NOOO.... she went and put it on anyway..." He grumbled.
He stopped about a dozen feet from the others, then his shoulders sagged.
"What... happened here?" He asked cautiously.

Solranous huffed,
"Mortis just declared that he hated this dimension and most of us in it, I'm assuming you are not included because you and he came from the same dimension. What's more, he further acussed us of just helping him for your sake, if my telepathic senses are correct."
Myrr frowned, why would Mortis do something like that? It didn't make any sense...
The half-dragon sighed, "As for why Kisara is out cold, we saw a serpentine creature that I thought was the Loch Ness Monster. When I mentioned the name, Mom just upped and passed out."

Shive sighed sadly, placing his face in his clawed hands.
"To tell you the truth... he hates me too. He hates a lot of people, and, honestly, I've yet to learn of who he doesn't hate... I can't understand why he's become so hateful lately... I'm kinda worried, despite what he thinks." He sighed.
He sat down, his hand on his forehead as he stared at the sand beneath him.
"He was withdrawn before... but this... this is a new level... could there have been something to trigger this?" He muttered.
He paused, then did a double-take at Myrr.
"The what?"
* * * * * * *
The wyrmling was pacing through the trees, a fang poking out of his scowling maw. His tail smashed against whatever it could as he pressed onward, finally stopping against a tree as he bit his lip, sobbing.
"goddamnit... why me? Why'd I have to be sent here? Why'd I have to be surrounded by these kind of people?!" He hissed to himself, eyes clamped shut.
"You should be grateful to be around these kind of people, Death's Mount." A voice stated from nearby.
Mortis's eyes snapped open as he jerked his head to the side, eyes settling on a human standing in the trees. He was a good 6'2 or so, and though his shoulders were borad and his frame muscled, they weren't anything special. He had short black hair, wore black jeans, a black jacket, and a gray muscle shirt underneath. His eyes were a mix of gray and blue.
"Wh-what'd you call me?" Mortis asked, shifting his feet into a defensive position.
"In this plane, your name is also that of the Grim Reaper's steed, the Pale Horse known as Mortis. I assume your parents didn't know that, but since that's your name, the myth must exist in some form or another in your plane." The man stated.
Noting the wyrmling's stance, then man laughed.
"Don't worry, neither of us can hurt the other." He stated, making Mortis cock an 'eyebrow'.
Can't? Mortis thought, confused.

Myrr blinked, then sighed, "Forget it, not that important anyways."
Solranous' eyes became downcast, "I'm not sure if I could answer that... but when I heard him say those things... there was a serpent that was about fourty feet long near him, apparently being the one he was speaking too. I couldn't understand a thing it said in response though... Swam right by me while I was under the surface, but I don't think it noticed me."
Kisara groaned, clutching her head. "What the hell? Why'd I pass out again?" she asked, before her eyes widened, "Oh, right, the whole Loch Ness Monster thing..."

Shive blinked, morbidly confused by the situation.
"He was talking to a serpent...? Huh... must be the whole 'aquatic subtype thing..." He muttered to himself.
He glanced at Solranous, then sighed, head hanging.
"I doubt it was that thing's fault... if anything, it probably had something to do with last night... that's when he reall started acting like this." He stated quietly.
But what could've triggered this?
* * * * * * *
Mortis was now sitting down, staring at the strange man in black with suspicion.
"It seems to me something's bugging you, little wyrmling." The man stated, leaning against a tree.
His gaze shifted to the wyrmling, the scales on Mortis's neck prickled. Something about that gaze... no, the man in general... something wasn't right.
"Talking about it helps. And you can trust me... believe me, I've gone through something similar. For quite some time in my life..." He stated.
Mortis was about to snap at the man, but sighed, deciding against it. Staring at the ground, he muttered,
"Well... it's... I feel I don't belong here. I feel hated and watched constantly, and I think it's made me hate everyone around me... I guess realization of what that'll do has set in..."
The man nodded, folding his arms and leaning his head back.
"Mortis, you belong here as much as any other inhabitant of this strange place. And the fact you think the others hate is.... well, I can't even begin to tell you how wrong that is. They're kind people, and you've yet to accept that."
"Oh?! And how would you know that?!" Mortis snapped irritably.
"Because... I myself knew them for quite some time. Originally, it was on bad terms, but we became friends after a while. I became depressed during a holiday, and they invited me to their festivities, knowing it would lighten my mood. They took me in when no one else would. They understood my plight and took time to at least try to lighten my dark life. So don't tell me they don't understand you, or they hate you... because that's horribly false. They're forgiving, caring folk, Death's Steed... and you should take time to remember this. Don't push them away; they'll prove to be very reliable people. You should know, they traveled across the planar gap to save you."
Staring at Mortis, whose head was dipped so low it now touched the ground.
"I... I... *sigh* I've made.... a bad... mistake, haven't I?" He muttered.
The man nodde,d then crouched down to Mortis's level.
"We all make mistakes, some large, and some small... but all of them can be fixed. This situation is no different." He stated.
The man stood up, and stated,
"Maybe it would be best if you apologized?"
Numbly, Mortis nodded, then paced out of the trees and back along the beachline towards the others.
