Mortis sat atop a rock that overlooked most of the river, his hardened yellow optics staring intently at the crystalline streak below. His claws were digging into the rock, never moving an inch as he whispered to himself,
"Nothing... but a tool... to remind the mortals... of the true horrors... of reality..."
His teeth gritted so quickly and strongly that blood dribbled down his chin, lips pulled back in a silent snarl. His tail thrashed behind him, and his eyes shadowed over as he growled,
"I know the extent of your powers, Master... you tell me you still own me after death, but you don't... not at your current strength. If I am to destroy myself..."
His snarl turned into a sneering, mocking smirk as he added,
"Then your messenger would be no more, and you'd be forgotten..."

Up in the trees near by, an almost pitch black form stared down at the azure wyrmling. However, he wasn't close enough to hear what the mutterings were.
"Well, well, well, why would a mere child such as yourself be out in the wilderness all alone?" the figure asked, jumping out of the canopy, over Mortis' head, and onto the other side of the river, turning itself around.
The being... looked essentially like Seela, but completely black with purple out-lining. Also, the blades protruding from the shoulders were much longer, twice again the Seela-look-alike's body length.
"So, what makes you think you can wander around here all alone?" the dark being barked.

Mortis saw the 'Dark Seela', but paid no attention to what he said as he started whispering to himself more, a disturbing grin slowly spreading across his face.
"Yes, forgotten... remembered only in the dusty tomes..."
He threw his head back and cackled, his iris's having thinned to the point where they were nothing but slivers.
"Forgotten until the stars are right, forgotten until you rise from the depths of the oceans, raising the city of R'lyeh and bringing forth your slumbering Spawn... forgotten until those last, fateful moments on this realm... whereupon all laws and morals will be sundered... whereupon all will shout and kill and revel in joy..."
His eyes went purple for a moment, then shot into a shade of blood-red as he tilted his head towards the intruder, and stated in a rasping cackle,
"But... as they say...
...
[glow=limegreen,2,300]That is not dead which can eternal lie... And with strange aeons, even death may die..."[/glow]
His shoulders shook in a dark laugh, staring at the 'Seela', wide eyed.

One of the dark beings shoulder blades swung forward, aiming at Mortis.
"Kid, something's wrong with you... Looks like I should put you outta your insane misery." the 'Dark Seela' growled.
"If ya wanna know who's gonna kill you, the name's Zhalee..."
At that, Zhalee charged at Mortis, intending on beheading the wyrmling in one fell swoop.
((Zhalee: >.<; I'm so gonna die...))

((Cthulhu: Not die, persay... but you'll wish you had...))
Mortis's eyes widened again above his grin, and he swiftly tumbled out of the way and onto the icy river below, landing without a hitch on all fours.
"Insane? Yes! Misery? ... maybe not so much. Heh. Heheheh. What defines insane, anyway? Simpy because I see existance in a different perspective than most? Because I've seen things... that shouldn't be seen?!"
His scales all abruptly darkened, and his grin spread further... abnormally far, in fact. The grinding of bones, the twisting and breaking of flesh, and his constantly-darkening coloration heralded a transformation... however, this one was different that the one he had before. Whereas his former change was bipedal, this one retained its quadrepedal stance. With a deepening, raspy laugh, he growled,
"Allow me to show you... the source of this... 'madness'."
As the transformation completed, Mortis now appeared as he would roughly 50 years from now, an adult dragon of powerful, yet semi-lithe, build. However, unfortunately, it wasn't that simple; his scales had darkened significantly in coloration, but not to the point where they would appear black. The segmented bones in his wings had thickened to the point where they’re on the outside of the wing-skins, and were rather jagged in appearance. His horns had all branched out in a parallel fashion, roughly four extra points on each of the larger horns, and two on the smaller. His eyes were a deep blood-red, darkening to purple around the edges, and his pupil was now nothing but a sliver of black. The flesh and scales from the back of his jaws, almost to the front of his cheeks had been removed, allowing for a partial view of his teeth 24/7, of which roughly half of them now poked out from between his closed lips. His spines had all lengthened greatly and turned a darker shade of gray, and his horns were a dark purple-gray in appearance, along with his underbelly plates. Small tendrils lined his jaw-line, ending in a cluster on his chin, along the back of his forelegs/hind legs, and along his spine. A thick, fleshy ‘spike’ jutted out of either foreleg’s shoulder, and there were a multitude of glowing red eyes, much like his own, located on the underside of his wings.
A cold, black mist seeped out from between his jaws as he glowered down at Zhalee.
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"Things... things like I... we are what reside beyond the lit reaches of the cosmos..."[/glow] He rumbled.
With that, his tail whirled upwards and smashed the rock platform he once stood on (and that Zhalee now presumabely occupied), sending rock-dust and bits of shrapnel raining onto the frozen river below.
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"Shall I show you the others?!"[/glow] He bellowed.
With that, each 'spike' on his shoulder abruptly shot out into a 20-foot long tendril, both of which streaked towards Zhalee with the intent of squeezing every ounce of life out of the dark Spectrobe.

"The hell!?" Zhalee screeched in surprise, shards of rock imbedded in his body, one in his left ankle. He was currently against the ground on his right side, having been knocked over when Mortis shattered the platforn.
With a swing of his left blade, the tendrils were shortened about two feet, buying the Dark Spectrobe more time two swing again, cutting off more of the tendrils' lengths. Finally, he managed to scramble to his feet and jump away, nearly buckling when his left ankle almost gave out under his weight.
"damn, damn, damn," Zhalee repeatedly cursed, turning to face the draconic abberation.
"Ok, something is really screwing with your head!" the Dark Spectrobe growled, his left foreleg tucked up against his body.
"damn, didn't want to use this so quickly, but I've got no choice already." Zhalee muttered below Mortis' hearing range. Suddenly, he bounded up to the corrupt dragon's level.
"Black Hole Twister!" the Dark Spectrobe roared, swing his right blade horizontally and then his left blade vertically, each one releasing a wave that collided with Mortis and wrapped around, restraining him to a degree.
As Zhalee landed, he brought his blades into an X pattern over his head, and then swung them, causing a large scraping sound, till they were at a 180 degree angle to each other. The energy restraining Mortis glowed, before a miniature black hole suddenly formed on his body, attempting to crush the corrupt dragon's chest, fore legs, and the beginnings oh his wings.
Zhalee though, couldn't tell if it was having any effect though, because the black hole wasn't shrinking like it usually did when he used the attack. Small rocks and parts of the ground were quickly being caught up in the weakened gravitational forces, but there wasn't nearly enough to cause any kind of catastrophe to the area.
'This... just can't end well...' Zhalee thought with despair, it didn't appear to be doing much, but then again, he never really could tell just how much it did.
(OOC: Zhalee's Black Hole Twister is about... 1/4 the strength of Zinv's mini black hole)

Mortis simply grinned as he attempted to hold the hole back, pieces of his flesh tearing off and flying into its depths, only to regenerate and repeat the process.
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"Interesting, interesting... but it seems you've pulled your trump card a bit early."[/glow]
Every eye on his wings widened, and his grin grew as he added,
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"You... NEVER... show your enemy one of your strongest abilities right off the bat... it's a sign of nervousness, I can tell. Are you nervous? You seem nervous. You're all jittery, and you pulled... this thing out, so you must be nervous."[/glow]
Each eye pulsed, then several locked their eyes with Zhalee's. A strange thing them overcame the dark Spectrobe... he was paralyzed completely. Mortis let out another rasping chuckle as the Seela-look alike could feel his mind being pried into rather forcefully... as in, he could literally feel as if someone were pulling his skull apart and looking at his brain.
[glow=limegreen,2,300]Ohh? This should be closing soon, then?[/glow] He pondered.
He continued grinning, then broke his gaze-lock with Zhalee's.
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"Pray I am too weak to come after you when this closes..."[/glow] He rumbled, claws still locked on the edges of the hole.

Zhalee shuddered at the feeling then growled at Mortis.
"damn you, you abomination!" the dark Spectrobe roared, suppressing a shudder.
'The bastard can regenerate!? He can fucking regenerate!? I've gotta get outta here! Only three seconds before he's free!' Zhalee thought to himself, turned to tail, and bolted as fast as he could into the forest, despite his weakened energy levels.
'damnit! My second best move was only good for a distraction! I've gotta put as much distance between myself and that monster as I can! I should have brought my partner with me for this fight... Oh wait... he's dead, forgot that...'
For now, he focused on getting away with his life.

The hole soon dissipated, and Mortis landed with a 'thud', his grin still in full-view.
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"Pity. Seems I've still some strength left..."[/glow] He rumbled.
With a snort, he took to his horrific wings and bound into the air, glaring down at the forest. A sphere of purple-green energy formed before his chest, before splintering apart into dozens of spherical 'bolts' and launching into the forest, exploding violently on impact, tearing up their areas of impact and anything around them. He gave a short, barking laugh, then his shoulders sagged as he gave the surrounding area a curious look.
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"Hrmph. Seems he's already gone. Now what? I'm bored. I don't like being bored. I need something to do, someone to maim..."[/glow] He rasped to himself.
Shrugging, he landed back on the ground, idly drumming his claws on the frozen river's surface, breaking through the ice in several taps. His eyes twitched, and he suddenly spewed forth a blast of icy black mist into the forest, freezing several trees in the process.
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"I know you're in there! C'mon out!"[/glow] He hissed.
He paused, listening, then cackled.
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"There's no one there.... HA-HA!"[/glow]

"So... this is what he turned you into... Mortis?" A voice asked from the tree closest to the frozen portions. Cynder flew out of the cover of the branches, staring at the twisted wyrm.
"Seems he's even twisted who you are on the inside, some what..." the black wyrmling continued. "And I have many doubts that words will reach to the you I know still exists in this state. I don't want to fight... but I will if I have to." Cynder finished, closing her eyes for a second.
She finally sighed and braced herself for an attack, mentally thinking just how ironic that she was essentially in Spyro's position now.

Mortis's head swiveled around towards Cynder, and he let out a barking laugh, lips twitching in that damned grin.
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"ATTACK you?! Now where would that get me?! Oh no... I won't waste time attacking you... there'd be no point, no, none... ... other than watching you writhe in agony as I tear your organs out one-by-one and show them to you... which would amuse me, I admit... so, I guess, there would be a point to it in the end..."[/glow]
The corrupt wyrm put a claw to his chin, jutting it out as he wondered aloud,
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"Where was I going with this again...? Ah well."[/glow]
He smirked, looking back at Cynder. He began slowly pacing around the wyrmling, his lips twisted back in a sneering grin.
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"And what do you mean, ' the you I know still exists in this state'? This IS me, Cynder... don't you recognize me? I've always been like this... this is just my twisted conscious brought to light, made physical... heh... heheh..."[/glow]
He momentarily scowled at the fact her eyes were closed, making it impossible to break into her mind. He snorted, smirking once more as he noticed her tense up. A thick haze started to slowly billow out from his form as he hissed,
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"Oh, how cute... trying to be brave? Trying to be like your violet knight from back home, hrmm? HAA! That's adorable, really, that is. Thinking I can be 'saved' just like you were? Please. I can't be 'saved', and even if I could, or WANTED to, I certainly wouldn't go to you... you're simply wasting your time and your breath..."[/glow]
His grin fell into a straight scowl, and he muttered,
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"Why you're doing so is beyond me in the first place... unless..."[/glow]
His eyes widened, and his scowl grew into a terrible glare as he bellowed,
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"OH-HO!! I see now! Going back to our roots, are we?! I get it now... you want to use me... let me guess, you think I can get you back home, hrmm?! Back to your friends, and your purple boyfriend?! IS THAT IT?! Or have you and your spectral b*tch formulated your own plan for planetary domination?!"[/glow]
He let loose a cross between a shriek, a howl, and a deep roar before one of his shoulder-tendrils shot out and speared her through one of her wings, nailing her to a tree.
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"Hrmph.... to think I actually liked you at one point... BAH!"[/glow] He rumbled.

Cynder cringed as she got nailed to the tree by Mortis' tendril.
"Use you? That isn't the real me, you know it! And besides, I already had my chance to go back! And I'm not about to follow in the foot steps of my tormentor!" Cynder hissed. She glanced at the tendril, then swung her tail, the sharpened blade at the end cutting clean through. She pulled her wing away from the tendril and backed away from it.
"To be perfectly honest... I don't recognize you... This isn't the you I know..." She clenched her teeth after that.
She wasn't willing to strike against Mortis, corrupted as he was.

A swipe from Mortis's right foreclaw sent Cynder tumbling across the frozen river as the Elder spawn rumbled,
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"Like HELL it's not! My physical form may have changed, but this is the REAL ME!! I've always been like this! You haven't been paying attention, or so it seems! Or maybe you just blocked out the harsh reality of what I really was!!"[/glow]
He charged after Cynder, then brought his claw down on her, locking her in place between his palm and the icy river beneath, his otherwordly odor forcing itself into her nostrils as he placed his muzzle before hers, watching her squirm as he rumbled,
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"Now, let's take a look at what you're really thinking at the moment..."[/glow]
Several of the eyes locked their gazes with Cynder, giving the black dragoness that feeling of having her skull split open, and her brain being jabbed at with red-hot irons. The corrupt wyrm let out a booming laugh as he entered her mind, traversing the corridors of her psyche as painfully for the wyrmling as possible. Images of her home plane were brought before Mortis's eyes, of what she was like under Malefor's control. He slowly formed a crooked grin at her past actions... then that grin fell into a scowl the moment images of Spyro started appearing. He saw everything before she was brought to Nightshade, noting Cthulhu (back when he hid under the surname 'Dogolas') was the one to bring her there.
Tufts of black haze flitted from his nostrils as he watched the Aparoid invasion, her remodeling into her biomechanically-armored self, and her downfall at the hands of Genesic GaoGaiGar. Images raced past as he 'fast-forwarded' through most everything else, Cynder's first party at Sol's, her trip to Arux di Itmen, her first Hollow encounter, etc. The images slowed when he reached their first meeting, and his scowl fell further as he watched their 'relationship' build. His scowl was now but a droop, eyes slowly losing their malice as the events slowly built up to the New Year's Party at Machinima. Mortis's claw lifted from Cynder's form as he took a hesitant step back, feeling the pure emotion he and the onyx dragoness practically exuded for one another.
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"GURAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!"[/glow]
Stumbling backwards, the mind-link was broken as Mortis thrashed about, wincing as he released roars of anger and pain. The Elder Spawn smashed his head through several trees, bellowing,
[glow=limegreen,2,300]"NO! IT'S A LIE!! IT WAS ALL A LIE?!?! AAUUGH!!! YOU'RE NOTHING BUT A TRAITOROUS, CONIVING WI-"[/glow]
He abruptly stopped in mid-thrash, then eventually, his hide began 'smoking' a thick, purple-gray haze as he began decomposing at an extremely fast rate, collpasing in on himself as he was eventually lost in the haze. Minutes later, the haze cleared, revealing Mortis's wyrmling form, laying on his side, eyes clenched in pain, jaw hanging open as a thin trickle of drool pooled onto the ice.
"I... I never meant..." He rasped almost silently.

Cynder rasped as she recovered from the pain of having Mortis' corrupt self tear into her mind. She managed to get to her feet, even on the ice, and stumbled over to the azure wyrmling.
"I know... Its ok..." Cynder whispered when he reached him.
'But for how long?' she thought to herself.

Mortis shuddered at her voice, and he visibly tensed, muttering, "No... no it's not okay... it won't ever be okay, so long as The Great Priest lays in his dead sleep..." His claws clenched, drawing blood as they pierced his paws. "So long as he exists... this torment will forever haunt me... and... I... I don't want you to have to be a part of it...." He staggered to his feet, cryogenic mist sputtering out of his mouth as he coughed. He shook his head, wincing now in emotional pain as he rasped, "I-I know... that you'll be hurt if I stay with you... and... I.. I don't want that to happen... not to you..." He glanced at the river, then back at Cynder, shaking slightly. Tears gathered at the base of his eyes as he whispered, "Goodbye, Cynder..." He abruptly leaned forward and planted his scaled lips against Cynder's for several moments, then in a flash of teal light, he vanished, a hole having been punched in the river's icy surface and into the freezing waters below... Goodbye... may we never meet again... The wyrmling thought as he travelled downstream. ((* Broken starts playing*))
